Friday evening a plane crashed behind the American Legion Hall
on highway 278 in Double Springs.
A late model Cessna 182 crash was
investigated by FAA inspector Jose Carreras
The owner of the Sapore Grill,
Wanda McCullar was outside at the
time and saw the airplane disappear into
the trees just south of highway 278.
She made the call to 9-1-1
Friday night at 8:28 PM
Double Springs police found
F. M. Bellingrath, pilot and only occupant
of the plane walking around by the crash site.
Bellingrath, age 77, was flying from
Mississippi back home to Pine Bluff, AR. Bellingrath was taken to a Birmingham
hospital where he was treated for head
injuries and a broken neck.
The cause of the crash is being investigated
by the Federal Aviation Administration. |
